CONVERGENCE
NOVEMBER 2011
"The Convergence paintings... seem to come from a more interior place, a place within Alston's consciousness - what she calls "found state of being" = rather than within the shaped consciousness of humankind."
-Peter Frank
These paintings are mainly created by the use of semi precious stone garnet, pumice gel, and acrylic paint. Most of the media is applied and tooled with various instruments.
Alston's paintings 'Oval of Gold 1, 2, and 3' were influenced by her visit to Thailand. She visited many of the temples throughout the country and watched the higher-evolved monks in their practice, much as she did when in Kyoto, Japan. The spirit of the Thai people had a great impact on Alston. She found Thailand to be a fascinating place, filled with a free spirit - perhaps the result of the country never having been occupied by a colonial power.
